The dark phase of Roshan Nagar came to light on Monday when Deputy Mayor Dayanand visited the place and was moved to see the poor state in which people are living here for many years.

He immediately announced he would sanction money from his fund for sinking a bore well and constructing public toilets.

He assured some 1,500 people living in the slums that he would ask the slum clearance board to construct pucca houses for them, to lead a dignified life. He also promised the residents all basic amenities.

The deputy mayor directed the health officials of the Palike to carry out fogging and spraying of insecticide in the area to check outbreak of epidemics. He also took note of the progress in '22.75 per cent grant' project under which houses are built for the economically weaker families. There are some 204 houses coming up under the project but only 24 have been completed so far in Roshan Nagar and Doddanna Nagar.

During the inspection, Dayanand was accompanied by local corporator R Sampath Raj and other BBMP officials.
