Challenged; yet, undeterred

Some of the contestants of Zilla panchayat and Taluk panchayat are physically challenged people, who have vowed to fight for their rights here.   One specially-abled candidate filed nomination for Zilla Panchayat polls and three did for TP polls, representing areas where specially abled people are in high numbers in the district. 

Speaking to Deccan Herald, President of the Federation M S Chaluvaraju said he filed nomination papers from Kerogodu Zilla Panchayat constituency as an independent candidate. The other members of the Federation such as Prabhuswamy from H Malligere Taluk Panchayat in Mandya taluk, M Manjuanath from Palahalli TP,  Srirangapatna taluk and Mahesh of D K Halli Taluk Panchayat, Malavalli taluk.

They were testing the waters for the first time. Chaluvaraju came down heavily on the leaders of prominent of political parties for not giving tickets to disabled in any of the constituency and not upholding the rights of the of specially abled. There are 45,000 physically challenged persons in the district.  He exuded confidence that he and his fellows will win in the polls with the support of progressive organisations and stree shakthi groups.

Missing

In Srirangapatna,  a boy who had gone for a swim in Cauvery river has gone missing from Chinnayakanahalli since Sunday. Siddappaji, 13,  was studying 7th standard at Srinivas Agrahara government school. He is the son of Siddaraju. According to eye witnesses, he was last seen while going with his friends to swim near Karighatta new bridge. His clothes were found on the river banks.
