'Consumers too partners in process of adulteration'

He was speaking at a programme on National Consumers’ Day organised jointly by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Food and Civil Supplies Department and Information Department here on Friday.

Nagaraj said that none of the products such as coffee, tea vegetables, oil, grams and clothes are devoid of adulterants.

He said that due to the consumers ignorance about the law, they are being cheated. He said that people are not making optimum utilisation of Consumer Grievances and Redressal Forums.

While stating that it is difficult to improve awareness among people about adulteration, he said tha unless a consumer movement takes place, adulteration will continue unabated.
Nagaraj said that under the Consumer Protection Law, traders are warned against selling adulterated products.

He said that people can avail the consumer courts to avail faster justice at lesser cost. He stressed on the need for conducting awareness camps in schools, colleges and other places.

Despite the presence of food testing centres such CFTRI, adulteration is yet to be stopped, he added.

He informed people to call 2479107 to complain about adulteration of any form going on in the city.
