Trees chopped off illegally

The trees worth ` 50,000 each have been suspected of being cut about three days ago on government land next to the area belonging to Palahalli farmer Padmanabha. Based on information provided by villagers, the trees seized while they were being transported. A police complaint has been lodged against Sathish of P Hosahalli and a case has been registered, said Range Forest Officer Devaraju.

He said that action will be taken against the guilty and a report has been submitted to the District Forest Officer. During the last week, teak trees worth ` 35,000 were cut in the land belonging to Maralagaalada Devaraju of the taluk.

Devaraju said that apart from trees such as rose, sandalwood and others, permission will be given for chopping within one week if farmers want to cut trees in their land.
Forester Khan, Forest guard Sathish and Ramalingu were present.
