This was not a scene at a rally organised by political parties pitching for votes for the upcoming Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections.

The venue was the inauguration of a Kabaddi Tournament at the Maharaja Government College PU College and High School grounds as part of the ‘Shathothara Amrutha Mahotsava Celebrations (175 years)’ of the school.

As students thronged the grounds to get a glimpse of sporting action, they were also thrilled to find Kannada Film Director Prem and ‘Kabaddi’ Film Director Narendrababu at the venue for the inauguration.

A loud roar was heard from the young student crowd who whistled after listening to Prem of ‘Jogi’,  ‘Kariya’ and ‘Excuse Me’ fame, when he said,
“All the best kanrappa, neevu chennagi aadi. Bisillali ninthidira, naanu bhashana hodiyolla (You’re standing in the sun, I won’t lecture you for long time).” Later, ‘Kabbadi’ Film Director Narendrababu said that students should play more ‘desi’ games such as hockey, kho-kho and kabaddi to retain the traditional games.

He also said that marketing and advertising people are trying to make the sports glamourous, which is an unhealthy trend. DCP (Law and Order) Basavaraj Malagathi, councillor Ninganna, PU and Vocational Education Department Deputy Director K Chandramma, former councillor D Nagabhushana, Maharaja’s PU College Principal M Nagaraju, Vice Principal B Vijaya and retired PU and Vocational Education Department director B S Sridhararaje Urs were present.
