Strengthen police dept: ACICM

The convener of Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore M Lakshmana on Tuesday demanded the State Government to strengthen and upgrade police department of city to tackle the increase of crime rates and to maintain law and order.

Addressing news persons at a news conference here, he observed that there is shortage of personnel to tackle growing crime rate as the city is expanding day by day. There is only 3000 policemen to check crime and to maintain law and order of 16 lakh people in the city.
He wanted to set up 10 more police stations for both traffic &crime and law & order, a separate police wing to control communal violence and to establish an effective intelligence wing. The city needs at least one police station for an area with a population of 50,000 people. There is only 18 police stations at present, he added.

He also demanded the government to appoint another four IPS officers and upgrade the present DCP’s post to IPS cadre. The government must strengthen Karnataka State Reserve Police and Rapid Action Force(RAF) to control communal riots and other agitation. A memorandum will be submitted to State Government very shortly by ACICM to fulfil all these demands.  
 
Religious Committee
Lakshmana also demanded the government to constitute a religious committee comprising of religious heads of all communities to solve disputes of all religions. This committee must solve quarrels and disputes of Church, Mosques and temple. The police must arrest political leaders if they makes provocative speeches.

He also urged district administration to provide full security to residents and people of Udayagiri, Kyathamaranahalli and surrounding areas as majority of the residents there are poor labourers, hawkers and vendors. The authorities of Regional Transport Office must check all illegal registration vehicles in city, he added
