The goal of the event is to encourage a healthy lifestyle by running, cycling and walking and also to create awareness about the benefits of environment-friendly lifestyle.

The event is the first-of-its-kind in India, claims Santosh Padmanabhan, one of the organisers.

“This is a very unique and exceptional event since we are doing it free of cost and are inviting people from all walks of life. It is aimed at promoting good health and a positive outlook towards life,” he said.

There are no monetary gains in this event except for the voluntary donations towards an NGO called Asha, which supports children’s education, he added.

“Bangalore was chosen as the venue since it has many running, walking and cycling enthusiasts, who frequently take part in such events. Bangalore has also grown exponentially as a city which supports such causes,” said Santosh.

The event is a joint effort of the running communities like Runners’ High, Runners For Life and Globeracers.

Nearly 1,500 people are expected to participate and cover a distance of 15,000 kilometres for this edition. People from schools, colleges, corporate companies and many from different parts of India will be a part of this event.

The run will span major locations in the city from Cubbon Park, Lalbagh, Embassy Golf Links, Ulsoor Lake and Madhavan Park. The cyclists are expected to cover a distance of 12,000 kilometres and are travelling from Bangalore to Hyderabad and back to the City within 48 hours. Some of the noted endurance athletes like Chandra Gopalan and Yasuhiro Honda will also be a part of the event.

The runners and walkers can join in at any of the locations based on the time slots and can take part in it. Except for the short breaks for food and toilet use, there will be runners running and cyclists riding for the entire 48 hours.

The event in itself will be a 48 hour continuous run and cycle ride by the community of Bangalore around parks and popular roads in Bangalore without causing any hindrance to the public.

Participants can choose to cover any distance they like over the 48 hours and they will be provided with food, water and medical facilities. The registration can be done on the spot or online on http://www.stridesofhope.com
