Though the beach festival and food festival would be formally inaugurated by MCC Mayor Rajani Dugganna at 4 pm on January 21, the beach volleyball and beach throwball contests would begin at 9 am onwards on the same day.

However, the kite festival by Team Mangalore will be held on all the three days (4 pm onwards on Jan 21 and 22 and 3 pm onwards on Jan 23).

There will be dance contests from the selected 20 teams from 6 pm onwards on January 21 and singing contests from the selected 15 teams from 6 pm onwards on January 22.

The top 5 teams in dance as well as singing contest will be performing again on the valedictory day on January 23, the Assistant Commissioner informed and added that a total of 30 teams for dance and 70 teams for singing had applied to take part in the event.

Musical evening

The valedictory programme would begin at 6 pm on January 23 in which District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar would preside.

The top 5 dance contest winners and singing contest winners would perform between 6.30 pm and 7 pm.

The highlight of the valedictory would be a musical evening by wellknown playback singers Rajesh Krishnan, Ganesh Narayanan and Chaitra.

Earlier in the day, Udayaraaga would be performed by Prasad Kaparde (Pune) at 6 am, skating contest for school children (8 am onwards in front of Nandaneshwara temple) and swimming, boat race and sand sculpture contests from 10 am onwards.

Kavalikatti also said that the district administration would take special measures to prevent any untoward incidents. Apart from setting up metal detectors at all entry points, a number of CCTVs would monitor the crowd, which is expected to cross one lakh, especially on the last day of beach fest.

Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project CEO Yathish Baikampady said that as many as 35 food stalls would be set up as a part of food festival. They will provide a taste of traditional coastal cuisine to visitors.

A variety of ice creams too will be available at the food fest, he added. Fisheries Department Deputy Director Suresh Kumar was also present.
