Kavalan aka Bodyguard is not to be confused with Kevin Costner’s film. A remake of Malayalam film ‘Bodyguard’ with Dileep and Nayantara, the film saw its title take several twists and turns like the flick itself before hitting the screen.

The 51st film of Kollywood’s Ilaiya Thalapthi sadly turns out to be a damp squib rather than change the wilting fortunes of star Vijay. Likewise, it does not profit the prospects of Asin who marks her return to Tamil films. Having sat through its stale saga, one can only pity Vijay and Asin who seek to court dame luck at the turnstiles. Despite combustile chemistry of the Pokiri and Sivakasi pair, Kavalan fails to light up the puerile proceedings.

Kavalan is simply kill joy entertainer with only Vijay’s fan going ga ga over his mundane routine. Shot on various locations, Kavalan is about how Vijay who, aspiring to be bodyguard of the rich and mighty, falls in love with a beautiful college lass, the daughter of a reformed liquor baron and how their romance begins and leads to its logical end after facing the filmy trials and tribulations.
