Jyoti Basu undergoes brain scan

Last Updated 13 July 2009, 19:33 IST

The scan revealed that a clot from a fall suffered last year has been healing, hospital medical superintendent Debashis Sharma told newsmen here. The nonagenarian leader has been making satisfactory progress at the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit.

A seven-member medical board, comprising specialists in cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, surgery and geriatrics, examined Basu on Monday as his heart reportedly stopped for a couple of minutes when he lost consciousness on Sunday at his Salt Lake home. Basu suffered haematoma in the brain from a fall at his home in September last year.

The doctors had advised surgery but he did not opt for it.“The medical board examining him is satisfied with Basu’s progress and the board will take a decision on his treatment. Overall, his condition is stable and all parameters are okay,” Sharma said.
