The searing heat had people gorging on various fruits such as plantains, papaya and jackfruit. However, the most sought after were cucumber, watermelons and ice creams.

With spicy sauce applied on the cucumbers, hawkers had little trouble selling them as people devoured the fare to beat the heat. Other attractions included ready-made shirts being sold for ` 75 apiece. While barkers caught the attention of passers-by, people from rural areas thought it a good chance to lap up the dazzling white shirts.

Loving their leaders!

Congress supporters seem to be very possessive about their leaders. The reason being that even as the rally was going on banners and flex installed around the venue were being removed.  One among them, a villager from Gundlupet Taluk, Mahadevswamy observed that the quality was very good and ‘Holadalli malgodikke itkothini (I’ll use it to sleep in my farm)’.
Several others were seen removing the flex with enthusiasm, as KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar was heard on the public address system stressing on the importance of boosting the morale of the people.

Innovative publicity

While hawkers made huge sales at the rally, it was the innovative publicity campaign by a Congress supporter that caught the attention of many. A pamphlet with material projecting the importance of rally was being distributed. On flip side the Cricket World Cup schedule was also printed to lure youth.
