Last Updated 22 February 2011, 19:25 IST

Chandru’s associates - Babu M, Ashok, Palani and Dini - were apprehended from various parts of the City on Tuesday, even as the police struggled to arrest the elusive corporator.

Three squads comprising 18 policemen have been formed to capture Chandru.

Reports denied

There were reports that Chandru had been arrested. But, DCP (North East), Ravikanthe Gowda, denied the reports.

Exuding confidence of arresting him by Tuesday midnight or Wednesday morning, Gowda said they had ‘definite’ clues on the corporator’s whereabouts.

Two of Chandru’s gang members, Shravan and Manjunath, were apprehended on Monday evening.

Shravan, who is Chandru’s brother, was remanded to police custody of one day, the police said.

Suspension confirmed

KPCC president G Parameshwara has confirmed Chandru’s suspension. Leader of the Opposition in BBMP, M Nagaraj, said the corporator will also face the disciplinary committee of the Congress. If found guilty, he is liable for expulsion.

Chandru is the second corporator from the Congress suspended for wrongdoing. Early last year, corporator from Ganesh Mandira ward, L Govindaraju, was suspended for being caught red handed by the Lokayukta, while accepting a bribe.

Attack condemned

The Congress has condemned the attack on U V Singh. KPCC media committee chairman Prof B K Chandrashekhar said a few officers of the BWSSB had joined hands with industries, which generated hazardous waste, and helped them release the waste into the tanks.

IFS Association flays attack

The Indian Forest Service (IFS) Association, Karnataka, has condemned the attack on U V Singh by ‘certain goonda elements.’
