Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship is a leading business school in Bangalore, with a mission to provide value-based management education, not only to those young minds looking to make it big in the corporate sector, but also to entrepreneurs, small-scale industrialists and those working in the public sector industry and services. The college was set up in 1991 by Prof J Philip, a man with more than four decades of industry experience. His name is synonymous with the industry itself.
At XIME, the courses offered include a two-year post graduate diploma in Management, Executive PGDM programme and a two-year post graduate programme in communications management.

“We believe that XIME students not only excel across several dimensions, like domain knowledge, communication, basic values and soft skills, but they also combine these with priceless qualities. It is for this important reason that we have succeeded in maintaining our position among leading business schools in the country,” says Prof J Philip, President, Xavier Institute of Management.

XIME is located in Electronics City, which is the centre of Bangalore’s IT industry. The campus is large and spread over 4 acres. The old block houses the administrative office, library, girls’ hostel and a recreation centre with 14 classrooms. Support facilities are available both at the old and new block.

The campus facilities include 14 classrooms with a seating capacity ranging between 40 and 150, an executive conference hall and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 300.
The entire campus (including hostel) is wi-fi enabled. The digital lab has 120 computer units and all students are provided with a laptop. All classrooms come with an audio-visual facility. The campus also has its own video conferencing facility.

The basketball, volley ball, badminton, tennis, snooker table are usually the most crowded spots on this campus.  The institute has won several accolades for its achievements in sports.

For students to relax and make best use of their leisure hours, the canteen, lounge and gym are perfect getaways. With a hygienic kitchen and full-time residential cooks, the canteen is also a place where students can catch up on some quality TV watching.

The ladies hostel, ‘Teresa Hall’, is located behind the main campus. The men’s hostel is located in the institute’s extension campus. These hostels can accommodate about 125 women and 150 male students. The rooms are cosy, well-lit and functional. Each student is provided with a bed, cupboard, desk, bookshelf and other basic amenities.

Adds Prof Philip, “XIME harnesses the power of technology, innovation and excellent human resources, to provide its students with world class business education programmes which are affordable, imaginative and relevant to the Indian business environment and ethos. Recognising that ethics and values are so essential for good business practice, XIME strives to inculcate these concerns in its management graduates.”

Unique to XIME

The MBA equivalent course is the core of XIME’s management education programmes. This is a two year, full-time, residential programme. The programme follows a trimester system. The first year consists of the required foundation courses. The second year consists of a few core courses, several electives, environmental courses and integrative courses.

A summer project spread over two months between the first and second years enables the students to put into practice many of the key concepts they will have learnt. Lecture sessions are supplemented with case studies, individual and team exercises, live projects, assignments, seminar presentations, business games, etc. Considerable emphasis is placed on team assignments, team discussions and teamwork. Continuous assessments are done through case studies, assignments, periodic tests, seminars etc.

Communication skills (oral and written) is a separate course to enhance existing skills. Students are required to be on time for classes and regular in their attendance. 100 per cent attendance in each course is expected of every student.

Most classrooms in the old and new blocks have been donated by various companies and organisation. Each hall is named after its respective donor, making the campus unique and encouraging for its students. Sir Dorabji Tata Trust donated the XIME Library. It is one of the most active centres in the campus.

Campus placements

Since its inception in 1991, XIME has invited more than 50 leading job recruiters every year to its campus for its placement. A few of the recognised names include Cisco, Coffee Day, CTS, Dalmiya Cements, Fidelity Investments, Firstsource, Vodafone, Wipro, etc.
