'Kotapadukere, Trasi to get PU colleges soon'

Proposal on PG study centre at Koteshwara will be considered, says Dr V S Acharya

Speaking after inaugurating the new building of Kalavara Varadaraja M Shetty Government First Grade College at Koteshwara on Sunday, he said one third of the total amount required for the construction of classrooms at Koteshwara First Grade College will be released. PU colleges will be started at Kotapadukere and Trasi in the coming academic year.

He said “in the era of globalisation, there is a need to think of effective utilisation of human resources.”  “There were only two universities and 150 colleges when Karnataka came into existence. However, now we have 23 universities, six private universities and 2,300 colleges.

After Yeddyurappa government came to power in the state, the government has started giving emphasis to education sector as well. Even this year’s budget priority has been given to education after agriculture.  A sum of Rs 12,284 crore has been earmarked for the education sector,” he added.

“We are expecting a sea change in education sector in the future. By 2020, at least 50 lakh students must get high school education and 20 lakh students must get college education,” he added.

In Udupi district, of 13 government first grade colleges, buildings have been constructed for eight colleges. The work on four colleges are under progress. The building of one college could not be undertaken owing to technical problem, the minister said.

A sum of Rs 60 lakh for the college building was donated by entrepreneur Kalavara Varadaraja M Shetty.
