All those who attended the meeting unanimously agreed to support the police and district administration to initiate strict action against the miscreants.

The prohibitory order will continue till Monday evening, said the Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda.

The participants condemned the stone throwing incidents. The leaders said no one should come in the way of initiating action against the culprits who were responsible for disturbances in Madikeri town. The real culprits must be arrested and legal action must be initiated against them.

MP H Vishwanath said “it is in our hand to make our land hell or heaven. Miscreants are present in all the religion, churches, temples, mosques and houses. Those who fail to respect the law of the land will create disturbances. Those representatives who fail to respect the law of the land will not get respect from the society. Let us honour and respect the law of the land.”

“We have the power to provocate our men. However, to control we need to go to the law. There is a need for peace in the society. Stringent action must be initiated by the police against the miscreants. Elected representatives should not be allowed to mediate between the miscreants. Let us forget the past and live peacefully.”

MLC M C Nanaiah said “without heeding to any pressure, the district administration must initiate stringent action against the miscreants who were responsible for throwing stones at the shops. Instead of constituting a committee for the welfare of a community, let us constitute a committee for the welfare of human being.”

He urged the administration to withdraw prohibitory order which was clamped in Madikeri. “There is a need to put an end to the mindset of calling for bundh for trivial issues. The police should take strict action against the miscreants within the framework of the law.”

District Chamber of Commerce President G Chidwilas urged the district administration to constitute a peace committee under the presidentship of CMC President.

Flaying the police for forcibly closing down the shops on Saturday, he said by closing the business establishments forcibly, tourists were put to hardship.

MLA M P Appachu Ranjan said “we will not come in the way of functioning of police department. However, the district administration should not withdraw the prohibitory order. Only after reviewing the situation, prohibitory order should be withdrawn.”

State BJP Committee member M P Sunil Subramani said let us all cooperate with the district administration in maintaining peace in the town. VHP district president K S Devaiah, Suntikoppa TP Member P M Lathif, CMC member Muneer Ahammed, Srihanuman Shakti Jagarana Samithi President B J Chinnappa, St Michael Church priest Fr Charles Joseph also spoke.
