The elections were held for Ward No 9 and 26 following demise of the councillors Rangaswamy and Rathnamma Mahantesh recently.
As many as 1489 voters exercised their franchise recording 50. 04 per cent polling in ward number 9 , while 1119 votes (57 per cent) polling recorded in ward number 26.
Except the activists seeking votes near few meters around polling stations, no untoward incidents happened during the polls. Several persons returned home due to deletion of names in the voters list.
The by-elections have become a battle of prestige for both Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress Party. For Ward No 9, JD(S) has fielded Dr H S Anilkumar, brother of MLA H S Prakash. There are 2,949 voters in this ward.
The BJP has fielded H L Vijaykumar and Congress has given ticket to B K Muralidhar. H M Chandrashekar contested as independent candidate. There are 2088 voters in Ward No 26. Six candidates were in the fray.
Congress had fielded Khamarunnisa Anjum. While P C Nagaratnamma contested as BJP candidate, T Nirmala Yogish is JD(S) candidate. Besides, there are three independent candidates. The counting of votes will be held on March 1.
