Writer seeks panel to check harassment

Speaking at the valedictory of the 5th state-level convention organised by Student’s Federation of India (SFI) as part of International Women’s Day in Hassan on Monday, she said though the cases had taken different forms, incidents of actual harassment on women were still continuing unabated.

The fairer sexes who have been subjected to harassment since thousands of years have been denied of equal opportunity.

CITU District General Secretary Dharmesh, who was the chief guest, said a movement to form committees to prevent sexual harassment against school and college girls should be started in the district. The SFI State Unit President Naveen Kumar presided.

The meeting also proposed to stress 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha, to hold a centenary celebrations as part of International Women’s Day, forming anti- harassment committees at every school and college, free education up to degree level, female foeticide, state-level agitation and awareness programmes against sexual harassment at the meeting.

A team of members for the sub-committee was announced. The details are convener - Sowmya, Deputy Conveners - Rekha of Raichur, Jyothi of Dharwad, Renuka (Haveri), Divya (Hassan).

Committee members - Shobha, Savitha (Bellary), Neela B S (Haveri), Arathi (Tumkur), Asha Bhagavarthi (Gulbarga), Nyamar (Chikkaballapur), Anjana, Shilpa Parhtar (Koppal), Manjula N ( Mysore), Savitha (Mandya), Vanaja Shanthakumari (Kolar), Veena (DK), Bhavya (Udupi), Fakiramma (Gadag), Lakshmi (Raichur) and Vanitha (Hassan).
