"I have said very clearly that it is a matter of great concern. The attacks are taking place on women. We hardly hear about any such attacks on men. The police must be more sensitive to ensure safety and security to women," Dikshit said after meeting the family of 21-year-old Radhika Tanwar at Naraina village and conveying her sympathies.

Officials said the Chief Minister assured the family of the girl that her government will do the needful so that the family gets justice.

Tanwar, a second-year degree student, was killed outside her college in Dhaula Kuan's Shantiniketan area yesterday by a man, who is believed to have been stalking her for
sometime.

The incident came on a day when the city was celebrating the International Women's Day.
Dikshit also asked people of the city to speak up against such crimes and said her government has already launched a novel initiative called 'Awaz Uthao' under which area-based community groups with special powers will be formed to combat incidents of eve-teasing, violence and harassment of women.

In a strong comment, Dikshit had yesterday said that it was a matter of shame that women do not feel safe and secure in the capital of the country.

"We invited you here to convey our great concern over the feeling of insecurity among the women in the city. Leaving aside the statistics, I want to ask you do we feel safe in the city.

"If women in the capital do not feel secure and safe then is it not a matter of shame," Dikshit had said at a function in presence of city police chief B K Gupta.

Expressing concern over the killing, the Chief Minister had said that she has taken up the case with the Police Commissioner.
