'Gauge conversion to be completed by Dec 2011'


The survey on Bangalore-Tirupathi rail route via Madanapalli is in progress. The project will be approved after obtaining the survey report, the minister said at a press meet here on Saturday.

Muniyappa said that he will put in efforts for implementation of the irrigation project proposed by Paramashivaiah. The project provides permanent irrigation facility to the drought-ridden districts of Kolar and Chikkaballapur. “I have already held three rounds of talks with the Chief Minister in this regard. He has assured of releasing the funds required to carry out survey,” he said.

He alleged that while he had got sanctioned Rs 4 crore out of the Union Road Development Fund to improve the roads in Chintamani town, a few others were claiming the credit for release of funds. “Development projects will take a backseat if I talk of politics. Hence I restrain myself from speaking politics,” Muniyappa declared.

Legislator V Muniyappa, who spoke on the occasion said that the demand for water in Kolar and Chikkaballapur could be met successfully by utilising the thousands of tmc ft of water not being utilised productively in western ghats.

S M Krishna, during his tenure as Chief Minister had released funds for carrying out the survey. However, the successive governments have not evinced interest in taking it further. It will be possible to fill up all the water bodies in the the district with the implementation of this project and this paves way for recharging the groundwater table as well, he opined and declared that he would strive incessantly to make the project, a reality.

District Congress Committee president Bissegowda, Zilla Panchayat former president Venkatamuniyappa, KPCC member J V Narayanaswamy were present.
