Shanu Mohammed, who resides in Raghubir Nagar, was arrested along with his four associates for their alleged involvement in three robberies and over 12 vehicle theft cases, V Renganathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), told reporters here.

"Shanu is a body builder and wants to be Mr Delhi. He was inspired by The Great Khali. He found that he could earn much from his electrician job which could help to realise his dream," he said.

The other accused are Aman Mehra (19), Satvir (30), Amar (24) and Anil (21). The gang was allegedly involved in the stealing of 14-1,500 denims from a three-wheeler in Raghubir Nagar on March eight and in the robbery at the Moti Nagar residence of 65-year-old Soma Rani.

They were arrested yesterday from Rampura, Renganathan said. Shanu started off as a petty thief. He was sacked from his job by his employer after he was found involved in a mobile theft case.  After this he came in contact with auto lifters.

"He was not satisfied with his partners because they did not give him proper share of the booty. He decided to set up a gang of his own by the name ‘Shanu Gang’. He also joined the gym to fulfill his ambition where he came in contact with Aman Mehra, Amar and Satvir," Renganathan said.
