HC sets up exclusive special court to hold trial in 2G scam

The High Court sources told PTI that CBI Judge O P Saini, who is dealing with the case, has been appointed as the Special Judge to exclusively deal with the matter.

The decision came in light of the Supreme Court's remarks on setting up a special court in view of the magnitude of the offence."Unless the government is prepared to create a special court, the purpose will not be served. It is the need of the hour. We must have exclusive courts to deal with these offences," a bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly had said while asking the government to consider setting up of the court.
"We have to get a special court if we want objective of the statue to be achieved. It cannot be done with existing manpower and infrastructure," the bench had said.

The Centre had then approached the Delhi High Court which, in consultation with the Chief Secretary of the city government, decided to set up the special court.
The Centre would be informing the apex court tomorrow when the matter relating to CBI investigation comes up for hearing.
