Gandhi Shilp Bazaar expo from today

S Devaramani, Deputy Director of the Handicraft Market and Extension Centre of the Ministry of Textiles told reporters here on Thursday that more than 150 craftsmen and women from various states will participate in the exhibition to showcase and sell their handicraft and artefacts. These artistes would bring the traditional art and culture associated with the their states. The expo aims to bring the craftsmen close to the buyers without the menace of the middlemen. The expo will host to products manufactured by the about 30 self help groups (SHGs), he said adding that many craftsmen would also hold a spot demonstration of the making of the handicrafts.

The artistes will arrive from Jammu and Kashmir, Orissa, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other states. The Haat would also host a weekend cultural programme showcasing the traditional dance and music from Rajasthan, he informed.

MLC Prof K R Mallikarjunappa would inaugurate the expo on March 19 at 4 pm. Joint Director of Industries and Commerce department Narayana Raju will be chief guest.

Prakash of Karnataka State Handicraft Development Corporation, Shivananjaswamy of JSS Urban Haat, Umakanth and Abhinandan were present in the press meet.
