Six persons sustained injuries in a leopard attack at Niluvagilu village in the taluk. The wild animal has reportedly succumbed to the injuries sustained in a bid to escape the villagers’ fury.

A leopard, said to be of nearly five years age, swooped down on a labourer who was working in an agricultural field.

As he raised an alarm, five more labourers working in the neighbouring fields came to his rescue.

Nagaraju (46), Mallaiah (30), Ravi (25), Chikkanaika (60), Suresh (35) and Dasanaika sustained grievous injuries in the attack. They are being treated at the general hospital in the town.

The villagers said that the leopard succumbed to the injuries sustained when it was chased by them, while it is also being said that the animal was done to death by the irate people.
The exact cause of death would be ascertained only after a postmortem, said Range Forest Officer Pramod Kumar.
