Man's death triggers protest

Villagers block road on Hootagalli main road

The deceased is identified as Shivanna (45), son of Siddegowda of Huyilalu village. The  relatives and villagers of Huyilalu near Belavadi blocked the road for more than half an hour when the police had to intervene to clear the road for the traffic.

It all happened when Shivanna in a bid to avoid the checking from the traffic police hit the police barricade and fell off his bike.

He sustained serious head injuries when he hit against the road divider and was rushed to the hospital. But, the doctors declared him brought dead.

Demand compensation

An agitated relatives and villagers of Huyilalu sat on a dharna on the Hootagalli main road demanding compensation for the victim’s family. They held the police responsible for the death of Shivanna and alleged that police chased Shivanna to catch him.

However, the police refuted the allegations and said the victim began to riding at great speed after seeing the traffic police carrying out a verification.

Vijayanagar Inspector Arun Nagegowda, V V Puram Traffic Inspector Rajashekar rushed to the spot and had to resort to using mild force on the agitating relatives and villagers to clear the road.

The relatives indulged in a wordy duel with the police. However, the Inspectors convinced the villagers to vacate the place.

V V Puram traffic police have registered a case.
