Siddu supports 33 pc quota for women

He was speaking after inaugurating the Women’s Day celebration, organised by the District Women’s Congress Committee at Jaganmohana Palace here. The Union Government has proposed to bring 33 per cent reservation for the women since 1996, however, the implementation hasn’t been an easy job so far.

UPA serious on the issue

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is serious about the implementation and has planned to achieve the objective at the earliest, he said.

Today, the women have surpassed men compared to any other time. She has proved her strength in all fields. Still there are exploitation happening against the women. Those responsible for making women victims of violence should get severe punishment, he said.

He also expressed concern at the female foeticide and said the menace should seen an end at the earliest. Earlier, Opposition leader in the Legislative Council Motamma inaugurated the programme.

National award winner Rathnamma, founder of Chamundeshwari Mahila Sangha was felicitated on the occasion.   State Women’s Congress president Manjula Naidu, former MLC Umashree, AICC member Mukhtharunnisa Begum, District Women’s Congress Committee President Meena Thoogudeepa Srinivas   and others were present.
