Gopalaswamy Hill fire razes forest

With the increasing summer heat and trees shedding their leaves, even a spark can lead to a fire spreading to the entire forest area. There have already been two forest fires in the recent past, leading to huge losses.

“Even though a fire line has been created by the forest department, there is a possibility of miscreants in the villages deliberately setting fire to the forest. The forest department is taking stern action against smugglers of wood in recent times.

They may have indulged in setting fire to the forest. Action will be taken against them,” Deputy Conservator of Forests Dr Hanumanthappa told Deccan Herald.

Mahadeva and Rachaiah of Berambadi village have been arrested in this connection. They were produced before the court on Friday.

Kariya, Javaraiah, Mahadeva and Chikkagundu of the village are absconding.
