2 kids die, 1 hurt as compound wall collapses

The deceased have been identified as Ayischnisha (5) and Azmina Danu (7). Another child, Mohammed Thais (7), survived with injuries.

It all happened when the children took rest after playing, at the compound wall of certain Haneef. Moments later, the compound wall collapsed on the children, killing two of them on the spot. Incidentally, Azmina is the daughter of Haneef while the other two kids are neighbours.

Man held for burglary

Police arrested a person who was involved in the burgalry of a mobile showroom in City on Tuesday. They have seized mobile sets, watches, two wheeler worth Rs 4.7 lakh from the arrested.

According to police, the arrested is Mahanthesh (28), a native of Thalakkal in Koppala district. He had stolen 90 mobile sets, 21 watches from the showroom on July 8. Of which, 72 mobile sets and all watches have been recovered. 18 mobiles were sold at reduced price in front of some mobile showrooms in the City.

It was said that Mahanthesh was involved in a theft case in Kolapura in Maharashtra. In fact, he had completed his sentence last December. Later, he was involved in the theft of sports materials from a shop in Pune.

Police said his modus operandi was that he used to study the shops carefully including the security system. Moreover, he was selecting those shops which did not have CC TV, siren, central lock system.

The team was lead by Vinay A Gaonkar.

Man held for stealing cash

Police arrested a person for stealing cash of Rs 1,08,800 from Vinyas hotel near Goodsshed road between July 20 and 21.

The arrested is hotel worker Ashok Poojary. The police have recovered Rs 1,07,175 from him. He was produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody.

2 held, ganja seized

Udupi police arrested two persons and seized 2.5 kag ganja worth Rs 50,000 from them while trying to sell the same in Udupi.

The arrested are Anup T T (23) and John Mathew (20). However, another accused Anil has fled the spot. The accused were involved in supplying ganja from Kerala to Manipal and Udupi at low prices. A case has been registered.

3 held

Police arrested three persons and seized spirit at Puttur Bypass road on Tuesday. The arrested are Ananthu (22), Vidyananda (20) and Girish (20).

The accused were transporting spirit to Kerala. It was said that they had stolen the spirit which were being transported from Bangalore to Mangalore officially.
