Pratibha Patil condoles death

In her condolence message, the President said, “Smt Gangubai Hangal was one of the most acclaimed exponents of Khyal Gayki of Kirana Gharana, and a doyen of Hindustani classical music. In her passing away, the nation has lost an accomplished and popular classical vocalist.”

Vice President of India Hamid Ansari, in his condolence message, said Hangal was a brilliant classical singer, who contributed immensely to the shaping of Indian classical music. “Her contribution to Indian classical music has won her many awards, and she will remain a shining example to the younger generations,” he said.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni has expressed grief on the demise of the noted vocalist.
