2 UP ministers put in papers

Although health minister Anant Mishra and family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha resigned from the ministry, sources said that they were asked to put in their papers or face dismissal.

UP cabinet secretary Shshank Shekhar Singh told reporters here that the two ministers resigned after an inquiry revealed large scale and serious financial irregularities in the two departments.

“Their resignations have been forwarded by the chief minister to the governor for acceptance,” he said.

Singh also admitted candidly that the chief medical officer (family welfare) Dr V P Singh was killed after he threatened to act against corrupt officials in the department.

He said the inquiry revealed that fake payments were made for various purposes under the centrally sponsored schemes at different hospitals in the state.

A deputy CMO and some other employees of the department have been arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Singh. “These officials were found to be involved in irregularities,” Singh said.

Senior cardiologist and chief medical officer of family welfare department Dr   Singh was shot dead in a posh locality in Lucknow on Saturday last.
