Writer rues erosion of values in contemporary society

Observing that it takes centuries for culture to change, writer Maleyuru Guruswamy expressed anguish about youngsters treading the path of the west, while at the same time forgetting traditions.

He was speaking at the valedictory of cultural, literary and sports activities at the JSS Women’s College here on Tuesday. He also released the annual college magazine ‘Sindhoora’.

Expressing sadness at technology becoming an integral part of our Guruswamy cited the example of a cellphone, without which life is now unimaginable.

He said that advancement of technology has led to people forgetting about human feelings.

Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies faculty member Dr C Naganna said that matured and talented writing should emerge among students. He said that writing should be truthful and emotional.

Dr Jayalakshmi Seethapura, Prof Thirumale Gopalan, JSS Women’s College Principal Prof G K Chandrashekarappa and Dean Dr K V Suresh were present.
