IPL will witness keen competition

Last Updated 13 April 2011, 16:18 IST

Four teams have yet to lose a match and four teams have yet to win a match.
At the Royal Challengers Bangalore, we are one of the two teams to have won one and lost one of our opening two matches. Like the other franchises, we are a new-look squad still in the process of settling into our rhythm and finding consistency.

We started well, chasing down a target of 162 to win in Kochi. Next, we came up against the Mumbai Indians, determined to impress our fanatical home supporters in Bangalore. Sent in to bat, we lost a couple of quick wickets and never really got going, Tillakaratne Dilshan and I batted for some time and, on what seemed a difficult wicket, we reckoned we may be able to defend a total of around 140.

In the event, we were proved to be 20 or 30 runs light. We were disappointed but not downhearted. We have an outstanding squad of players and RCB is rightly recognised as one of the most professional organisations in the IPL; we know what we need to do, and we are confident we will get back to winning ways, all going well in our third match, against the Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad today.

New combinations are developing, new teams are settling – it’s early days but all the right ingredients are in the mix and the ten IPL engines will soon be roaring.
