Tomato growers in the district staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding the government to fix minimum support price (MSP) for their crop.

Under the aegis of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha the farmers staged a sit-in in front of the agriculture produce market yard.

The farmers are incurring loss for the past few days due to drop in the price. The growers are unable to bear the cost of transportation of the produce to the market, the agitators complained.

They demanded the government to fix Rs 5 as the minimum support price (MSP) per kg.

To make the matter worse, the middlemen are collecting commission from the farmers, the agitators alleged and urged the officers concerned to take action against such middlemen.

Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy, G Arjunan, P R Suryanarayana, Krishne Gowda, Gangamma and others led the protest.
