Several illegal structures that had come up on the either sides of the drainage were razed down amidst tight police security in the presence of T A Hanumantaraya, tahsildar.

The drainage is constructed adjacent to the Chitravati Barrage during the British rule. The water from the barrage flows to Korlakunte through the main road in the city.

Nearly 33 ft of the area on the either side of the drainage was encroached over the past few years. The area was also covered weeds due to lack of maintenance. This had obstructed the flow of sewage.

Dr N Manjula, Deputy Commissioner, during her recent visit to the area had taken the officer to task over the issue. She had also directed the officers to take up clearance activities following which the local body had issued notices to the encroachers to clear the area.

The land on both the side of the main drainage is encroached by nearly 25 properties. The land is being cleared under the guidance of T A Hanumantaraya, tahsildar. The Town Municipal Council has released Rs 10.5 lakh to clear the silt from the drainage and to take up repair work, said Town Municipal Council Officer Sudhakar.

Revenue Inspector Nagabhushan, Nagaraju, Assistant Engineer Raghunath, engineer Venkatesh, health inspector Murali, Sub-Inspectors J N Anandkumar, K M Srinivasappa and others were present on the occasion.
