Observing that the guru is showing signs of recovery which are not generally associated with people of his age as reflected by the improvements in his vital parameters, Reddy, chief gastroenterologist at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, said: “His liver, which was diagnosed with jaundice last week, has improved and will become normal in the next seven days if he continues to respond in the same way.”
He pointed out that the ammonia level in Baba’s liver had increased to 90 a couple of days ago, which was way above normal. “We managed to bring it down to 30, which is normal,” he said, adding that the liver bilirubin level has also decreased. Although the liver has improved faster than expected, the respiratory system and kidneys continue to be critical, leaving the spiritual leader in a critical state.
Reddy, who had a discussion with the panel of doctors treating Baba, said the doctors are now more confident about the godman’s recovery. “When I say his kidneys and lungs are still critical, do not mistake me to be saying he is not improving. I mean to say that in order to declare that he is completely out of danger, there needs to be some more improvement,” he said.
