As awareness on water conservation will enhance among the residents while implementing the RWH, ‘treated water’ will become more acceptable, he reasoned, at an interaction with the media on Friday.

Citing the example of the Devanahalli industrial belt, he said BWSSB had already invited tenders to set up a tertiary sewerage water treatment plant in the area. Implemented, the project will provide 40 MLD of recycled water to the industrial belt in Devanahalli.

Ramamurthy said BWSSB has identified 20,000 buildings on 60x40 ft sites that have implemented RWH and is considering making it binding on the remaining 38,000 buildings on sites of same dimension. “Later, the smaller houses may try to implement the project. We have already seen houses built on 20x30 sites constructing RWH on their own,” he said.

Installing RWH structures is mandatory for all the government buildings and BDA layouts. As for new BDA layouts, BWSSB has already made it compulsory that there should be a sewage treatment plant (STP) for every 100 sites, before approving the water supply and sewerage lines.
