Cops in London treat every traffic violator in a polite manner, rather than painting a grim picture, said IGP (Southern Range) Amar Kumar Pandey.

He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on custodial death organised for city police at Senate Hall, University of Mysore, in the city on Friday. The three day workshop aims at creating awareness among cops to adopt soft approach in dealing with accused, instead of using force.

London notes

“In London, cops greet the offenders with a hello first, before telling he or she about the offence they have committed. In India it’s totally different, where cops follow rules of their own, going out of the book”, said IGP in a sarcastic tone.

The officer stressed on incorporating scientific methods of investigation like-DNA test, narco analysis among several others, that could help prove charges against the accused without  any use of external force.

Human values

As policing is not devoid of pressure from influential parties like politicians and affluent people, cops under pressure prefer force in the course of investigation ending with lock up death.

The officer said that human values also assume significance when dealing with the criminals and cops should bear the truth in mind. The values have to be upheld and it’s the responsibility of all.

Principal District and Sessions Judge H P Sandesh said the very system is to guard the society that includes people and property, not to take lives.

Cops drawn from the police stations will be attending the workshop in batches.

Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal, DCP (Crime and traffic) P Rajendra Prasad, DCP (CAR) M N Prabhashankar and resource person and Dy SP (Retd.,) Kunigal Srikanta were present during the inaugural event.
