Tension prevailed for sometime, when the workers belonging to BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) parties, staged a protest and counter protest respectively here on Friday, over disqualified MLA H S Shankarlinge Gowda’s diatribe against Medical Education and District In-charge Minister S A Ramdas.

The former MLA had taken exception to the minister garlanding the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Town Hall on Thursday, on the latter’s 120th birth anniversary. “You being a corrupt man switching loyalty for personal gains do not have any moral right to honour              the great man”, was how  Shankarlinge Gowda attacked Ramdas.

The angry BJP workers led by their city unit president Shivakumar staged a protest at Maruti Temple Circle at Gangotri Layout, a few metres away from Gowda’s residence. The police had also given permission.

Learning about this, a posse of JD(S) workers led by their city unit chief Koppal Rajanna descended on Gowda’s residence. Gowda who received a shot in the arm, harangued the workers of saffron party, creating a tense moments for a while. The enraged BJP workers too hurled expletives turning the otherwise peaceful road into a noisy zone.

As both the parties dared to defy the presence of police personnel, who had already been deputed in large numbers, the cops decided to detain the agitators.

Two police vans and extra police forces had also been summoned. But what followed next was a ‘natural action’. It began to rain forcing both the parties to disperse, bringing respite for the cops.
