JOIN USSeetha (42) and her daughter Gayathri (18) are the dead. Seetha’s son Ganesh alias Chiranjeevi, who was injured, is recuperating in a private hospital.
The mother and daughter were killed when lightning struck their house as they slept. The walls of the house had developed cracks and they were buried under the debris.
A shard of glass from a shattered window pierced Ganesh’s eyes. The loss of property has been estimated at Rs one lakh.
Seetha’s husband Monappa Poojary had passed away few years ago. Gayathri was working in arecanut plantations as labourer and had plans to join a soft drink unit on Saturday.
Ganesh had appeared for the SSLC exam and was awaiting the results. The district administration has sanctioned Rs two lakh as ex gratia to the family, said Tahsildar Ravichandra Nayak.
As Ganesh is a minor, the cheque could not be issued to him. Hence, it has been decided to deposit the amount in the account of his aunt.
