For, there is little difference between the condition of the bus terminus in Shidlaghatta and that of one in a remote village. There are heaps of garbage surrounding the water sump, overflowing dustbins, waster strewn everywhere…
Women, children, elderly people and just about every passenger in the buses coming to the station from various places in the middle of the summer heat search for drinking water as soon as they land in the town. But the condition of the area around the water collection sump would surely make them prefer thirst to any health problems possible.

Citizens too take no initiative at maintaining cleanliness at the bus stand. There are paan-stains on the walls and even the floor, giving a feeling of nausea to the people at the bus stand.

Lack of a proper compound wall has added one more problem to a long list. In addition to the buses, pushcarts, private vehicles etc enter and even park right inside the bus stand.

Passengers, including students, are upset about the lack of basic amenities. Dried-up taps, dirty surroundings, dusty air are what represent the public place. Then why do the people’s representatives and officers take no care to improve the condition of the bus stand, ask travelers.

Cleanliness matter

One drain line runs adjacent to the bus stand, but is filled with waste, rather than sewage. Fruit and vegetable stalls too are put up right next to the drain, worrying citizens about the spread of diseases through an inescapable contact with pollution.
“The condition of the bus stand makes us wonder, ‘Is this a town or a village in a remote place?’ Representatives and other officers should themselves travel by buses and land in the bus stand to be able to understand the problems faced by travelers,” complain the citizens

“Development activities should be undertaken by providing facilities to passengers,” they add.
