Parameshwara chants discipline mantra

Last Updated 18 April 2011, 18:35 IST

The party’s resolution comes at a time when discontentment is brewing in the State Congress with a section of leaders including Siddaramaiah expressing their unhappiness as their supporters had been left out from the office bearers list.

Parameshwara had convened the office-bearers meeting on Monday to stem the simmering revolt.

However, Siddaramaiah stayed away from Monday’s meeting but not before telling the media that he had sought the permission of the state chief that he be excused as he had to attend a party function in Madikeri.

Siddaramaiah, is not in the office bearers list of the party, but can attend its meetings by virtue of his position as Leader of the Opposition. Of the 67 executive committee members, 55 attended Monday’s meeting.

Parameshwara told reporters after the meeting that the office bearers resolved to strengthen the party and “give it a new shape” in the days to come.

“The members felt suitable disciplinary action including executing the suspension and expulsion clause in the party constitution need to be initiated against members who cross limits”, Parameshwara said.

The party chief, however, said he would use his powers with discretion.

To a query, Parameshwara said he would once again urge senior leaders H Vishwanath and D K Shivakumar to end their war of words and solve differences, if any, within the party forum.

Shivakumar is not an office bearer and hence he was not invited for the meeting, party sources said.

Parameshwara admitted that some leaders were disappointed on being left out of the office bearers list.

“The party constitution puts a cap on the number of office bearers and special invitees. Everyone cannot be accommodated, but we will ensure that the services of those left out are utilised appropriately”, Parameshwara said.

He said district incharge secretaries, general secretaries and vice-presidents will be appointed in a day or two.
