The deadline was fixed at a meeting of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Monday. The official announcement will be made once the government notifies the regulations.

The chief secretary to government had issued a circular a year ago asking all the departments to install RWH structures at their offices. The BWSSB chairman too had written to principal secretaries and department heads to make provision for RWH structures in their buildings.

However the direction has been observed more in violation than compliance. Except Vidhana Soudha, Vikasa Soudha, official residences of chief minister, Opposition leader, Speaker, a few ministers, Palike and BWSSB offices, the system has not been adopted in any other government buildings. This has prompted the citizens ask the BWSSB to practice what it preaches.

In its hurry to take up the drive, the Board even inaugurated the RWH theme park in Jayanagar even before the displays there were installed completely.

“We are not still clear on how to go about installation of RWH structures. The Board cannot all of a sudden fix a deadline and threaten us with disconnection of water and sanitary connections. We want to have a face-to-face interaction with the chairman,” said Mukund Rao, secretary, Citizens’ Action Forum.

Board chairman P B Ramamurthy said RWH system has been adopted in about 26,000 houses and several government buildings. “The number of government office buildings are yet to be identified as figures have to be collected from different sub-divisions. A nodal officer has been appointed specifically for the purpose,” he said.
