Great expectation for agri meet

Minister for Agriculture Umesh Katti said that several countries had shown interest in the meet and could possibly invest around Rs 55,000 crore.

The meet aims to free farmers from the clutches of middlemen and ensure good prices for their produce, he said.

“Investments like those in contract farming that can be a setback to the farming community will not be encouraged,” he said. On the extent of land to be given to the investors, he said it depended on the demand of the investors and added that vast tracts of land could not be given.
