Rain throws life out of gear in City

HAL airport recorded 3.3 mm of rain. Showers are expected on Wednesday too. There were huge traffic jams on major roads like K R Circle, Mysore Bank Circle, Majestic area, Okalipuram and Seshadripuram.

Traffic moved at snail’s pace in Electronics City, KR Puram, Frazer Town, BTM Layout, Koramangala, Gayathri Nagar, Nayandahalli, Byatarayanapura on Mysore Road, Yeshwanthpur, Peenya, Kengeri and Hosur Road. Things went out of control for some time in the City Market as water overflowed on certain roads and vehicles were stranded for nearly half-an-hour. Chaos reigned on Magadi Road, West of Chord Road, in Vijayanagar and in areas where Metro Rail work is in progress. Drains overflowed in Koramangala and K R Puram. Things were no different on MG Road, Avenue Road, Kanakapura Main Road, Ashok Nagar, DG Halli, Hebbagodi and other places.

Palike Commissioner Siddaiah personally attended to rain-related complaints at the Palike control room. “Trees were uprooted at RPC Layout, Malleswaram, Vijayanagar and RT Nagar. BBMP tree cutting squads and gangmen were deployed to address complaints from the public,” he said.

The Gali Anjaneya Temple on Mysore Road was flooded once again. Siddaiah said the delay in completion of drain work was the prime reason for the flooding of the temple. Flooding was also reported in houses across Bapujinagar, Anand Nagar near Nayandahalli and Kengeri.
