Madikeri CMC presents Rs 4.37 surplus budget

The budget has earmarked Rs 10.82 crore for the development of road, Rs 93 lakh for the maintenance of road, Rs 5.28 crore for the construction of drains, Rs 3.15 crore for the construction of building, Rs 2.47 crore for the supply of drinking water, Rs 48 lakh for the development of parks, Rs 1.22 crore for the maintenance of streetlights.

Under 22 per cent grant meant for the welfare of SC/ST, a sum of 89 lakh has been earmarked. A sum of Rs 29 lakh has been reserved for the development of BPL families.
Speaking on the occasion, Opposition member T M Ayyappa urged the CMC President take all the members to confidence before implementing programmes. He urged the President to reserve 50 per cent of the grant for the development of slum areas.

He said the compensation paid for rain damage was distributed through the district administration. The compensation should be distributed through CMC. A separate fund should be created to deal with natural calamity in the CMC. To which, the President said that 20 lakh will reserved to deal with dain damage.

Member K S Ramesh said to find a permanent solution to the drinking water woes Kundamestri project is being implemented at the cost of Rs 30 crore. Once the project is ready, the water woes of Madikeri town will be solved.
