Mining: Govt action against officers

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa told the House that the government suffered a loss of Rs 22 crore, as mining was allowed in agriculture land (patta land) during the tenure of the Dharam Singh government.

In his written reply to an unstarred question by JD(U) member M P Nadagouda in the Legislative Council, the CM said that as per the Lokayukta’s recommendations, the government had initiated disciplinary action against the then directors of the Mines and Geology Department, Dr M Basappa Reddy and Gangaram Baderia.

The CM said the Lokayukta had recommended disciplinary action against the former Managing Director of Mysore Minerals Limited for causing loss to the government. The government had initiated action against the officers. As much as Rs 50.98 crore had been recovered in various cases.

Yeddyurappa said as many as 183 cases of illegal mining had been reported since 2008. The government collected Rs 684.04 crore as revenue from mining.
