Dharmasthala firing: AP cops released on bail

Two police personnel belonging to Andhra Pradesh reserve police who were arrested on charges of killing a man and injuring another, after they opened fire at them, in Dharmasthala on May 1, have been released on conditional bail by the sessions court here on Friday. The released are Bikshumayya (54), a head constable, and Suvarnaraju (26), a constable.

The judge asked the duo to appear before the court as and when they are called.

It may be recalled that Aithappa (35) was killed on the spot while Uday Kumar fractured both his legs after the Andhra Pradesh reserve police on the mob on May 1. The reserve police, numbering about 100, were posted on election duty at Karkala. They were on their way back to Andhra Pradesh via Arsikere when they decided to have the darshan of Lord Manjunatheshwara, when the incident took place.

Custody extended

The sessions court extended the custody of all six persons who were arrested in connection with the murder of City based advocate Naushad Kashimji, till May 23.

The arrested are Dinesh (24), a resident of Belthangady; Rithesh (20), a resident of Kodikal; Prathap (26), a resident of Kavoor; Ganesh (28) of Kodikal; Subrahmanya (24) of Kadri and Shivaprakash (30) of Urwa Store.

Woman ends life

An 18-year-old woman committed suicide at her home at Kumpala near Thokkuttu on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Trisha.

It is said that Trisha was engaged about two months ago. However, the reason for the extreme step is yet to be not known.

Ullal police have registered a case.
