Graft in BWSSB exposed

Last Updated 22 April 2011, 19:11 IST

According to sources, government funds to the tune of about Rs 15 crore have been siphoned off by fudging documents. An inquiry has confirmed the irregularities at divisional and sub-divisional offices, and has also brought out the involvement of some officers and contractors.

According to the rules, approval from the head office should be obtained for any bill of Rs one lakh and above. In fact, sub-divisional office has to write to divisional office on the requirement of machinery which in turn should approach the head office for release of funds. However, it has come to light approval from the head office has not been obtained. There are also suspicions of swallowing money by submitting fake bills.

"A committee  of accounts officers and officials has been formed to investigate the matter. All 26 sub-divisions of the Board are under the scanner, a report will be submitted by the committee on Monday.  Stringent action will be taken against those found guilty," said BWSSB chairman P B Ramamurthy.
