Jayalalitha opposes relocation of official files

Last Updated 24 April 2011, 17:32 IST

In a move that points to AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha’s unease with the newly established Assembly-cum-Secretariat complex, party treasurer, O Pannerselvam and others said in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi that the shifting of files would amount to violation of the poll code of conduct.

The AIADMK leaders claimed they had reliable information that the “caretaker government was attempting to destroy important files” in the Fort St George building under the guise of shifting the departments. The State Chief Electoral Officer also functioned from Fort St George, the letter pointed out.

The caretaker government “cannot take any major policy decisions now” that included shifting the departments, the letter said.
