The deceased were identified as Lakshmamma (45), Gangaraj (21) and Sumithra (19), all residents of Hegdenagar. They decided to end their lives allegedly due to financial problems and domestic strife.

According to the railway police, Lakshmamma's husband Jayaramaiah had passed away a year ago. Gangaraj was married to Mamata just three moths ago. He was working as a waterman and had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh. Sumithra, his sister was married a year ago.
Mamata wanted Gangaraj to leave his widowed mother and set up a separate home. When refused, she had gone away to her mother's house a few months ago, but had returned some time ago.

Too late

Lakshmamma, Gangaraj and Sumithra left the house around 8.45 pm telling Mamata that they would come back soon. When they did not return, Mamata called up her husband to check, but his cellphone was switched off. She went out in search of them, but her efforts proved futile. She returned home and found a piece of paper which contained a message, “We are ending our lives. We are responsible for our deaths.”

Mamata contacted her relatives and friends and was advised to stop her search as it was too late in the night, added the police. A few passersby, who noticed three bodies mutilated and lying near the track at Telecom Layout in Jakkur, informed the police. The police found a cellphone near the spot and traced Mamata.
