“Just see the ridiculous nature of the demand; three Assembly elections were held since the arms drop case and the fourth one is going on. Today an accused is raising allegations and they are making a ruckus over it and demanding judicial probe. What were they doing for all these years? Were they sleeping?” Mukherjee said here. Pranab said the incident had taken place on the midnight of December 18, 1995 and there was a non-Congress government in Delhi for eight years. Later, the CBI had investigated the case and submitted its report. “Indrajit Gupta of CPI, who hailed from Bengal was union home minister for two years. L K Advani was union home minister for six years. Three (Assembly) elections were held in Bengal since then and this allegation was never raised,” Pranab said with a smile.

What Mukherjee did not say in so many words is that the issue is being raked up by the Marxists to gain some political mileage during the ongoing Assembly elections.
